The Student Bar Association Senate commended students for urging GW Law officials to disinvite U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the school’s public interest career fair at a meeting Tuesday. SBA President Amanda Hichez and SBA Vice President Quinn Biever thanked senators for convening an emergency meeting last week to endorse a student-led effort asking officials to revoke ICE recruiters’ invitation to the joint GW Law and Georgetown University Law Center public interest law career fair. “I think it was an effective way to, first of all, rally the troops and advocate for the wishes of the majority of students at our law school,” Hichez said. GW Law students told The Hatchet they were disappointed with Matthew’s decision not to disinvite the federal agencies from the fair, citing ICE officials’ “dehumanizing” deportation efforts and a dismay over agents killing two U.S. citizens amid widespread protests in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Officials offered information on services at the University to keep students safe, like the GW Guardian app which can connect students with campus police, according to Hichez.
