Derby councillor quits Conservative group in 'out of blue' moveIt means the city's Allestree ward now has a political splitView Image Allestree councillor Kieran Morgan-McGeehan has left Derby's Conservative group (Image: Derby City Council)A Derby councillor has unexpectedly quit the city’s Conservative group, with colleagues saying the move came “out of the blue”. ‌Kieran Morgan-McGeehan, who was elected as Allestree’s Tory councillor in 2023, has now left the party and chosen to become an Independent councillor within Derby City Council instead. ‌He was voted through in his ward alongside the two fellow Conservative councillors – the group’s leader Steve Hassall and Councillor Ged Potter. ‌It means Derby City Council is now made up of 24 Labour councillors, 14 Conservative councillors, 6 Reform Derby councillors, 4 Independents and 3 Liberal Democrat councillors. The next Derby City Council elections are scheduled for 2027.
