Russian oil company Lukoil plans to sell its international assets to U.S. private equity firm Carlyle Group, Lukoil said Thursday, as it rushes to divest its global portfolio in the face of impending U.S. sanctions. The U.S. Treasury gave Lukoil until Feb. 28 to sell its foreign assets in response to sanctions imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump to push for a ceasefire in Russia’s war on Ukraine. The sale still requires approval from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control, which administers sanctions. “For us, the most important thing is that the interests of the Russian company involved are protected and respected,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday. Trump announced new sanctions against Lukoil and Rosneft, Russia’s two biggest oil companies, on Oct. 22.
