Puerto Rico’s Economic Activity Index showed continued momentum late in 2025, supported by gains in construction activity, consumer spending and employment. (Antonyesse/Dreamstime.com)Puerto Rico closed 2025 with continued improvement in economic activity, supported by gains in consumption, employment and construction, according to the latest results of the Puerto Rico Economic Activity Index (IAE-PR) released by the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC, in Spanish). Year over year, the index increased 0.2% in October and 0.8% in November. “The most recent results of the Economic Activity Index confirm that the economic development strategies we are implementing at the DDEC are having a real and measurable impact on Puerto Rico’s economy,” DDEC Secretary Sebastián Negrón said. DDEC said it is evaluating additional data sources to improve the index’s methodology and better reflect Puerto Rico’s ongoing energy transition.
