Scott will retire effective Feb. 1, 2026, concluding more than 16 years of service to the town as both police chief and town manager. Scott was recognized during his final Town Council meeting on Jan. 20, when Mayor Andy Moore and council members honored him with a proclamation and an honorary key to the city. He was appointed town manager in 2016 and went on to become a central figure in town leadership. Members of the Smithfield Town Council recognize retiring Town Manager Michael Scott.
