The aid, allocated through the ECOWAS Directorate of Humanitarian and Social Affairs under the regional organisation’s Vision 2050 framework, was formally presented on Monday, 26 January 2026 in Lomé.
The gesture underscores regional solidarity as Togo continues to contend with a deepening humanitarian challenge, particularly in its Savanes and Kara regions.
Humanitarian organisations report that tens of thousands of people have fled violence linked to the spill‑over of armed groups from neighbouring Burkina Faso into northern Togo, with many seeking refuge in precarious conditions.
Ongoing efforts by the Togolese government and international partners aim to strengthen resilience and improve conditions in affected areas.
ECOWAS’ intervention builds on previous cooperative responses in the region and reflects a broader commitment to humanitarian action and regional stability under Vision 2050.
