Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that West Africa experiences an average of 44 deaths every day due to terrorist attacks, with roughly eight incidents occurring daily across the sub-region. Speaking at the High-Level Consultative Conference on Regional Cooperation and Security in Accra, Mr Ablakwa said that between 47 and nearly 60 percent of all global terrorist activities now take place in West Africa, highlighting the region’s increasing vulnerability to violent extremism. The minister described the situation as a “grim and urgent reality” for regional security and called for intensified collaboration among West African states to tackle the rising threats. The conference convened security chiefs and senior officials from countries including Burkina Faso, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Mali, and other nations in the region. Its goal is to enhance intelligence sharing, strengthen regional cooperation, and develop coordinated strategies to prevent, confront, and reduce insecurity across West Africa.
