Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius told a German publication that the Trump Administration attempted to lure Mercedes-Benz to move its headquarters to the U.S. last year. However, the German automaker subsequently announced it would begin production of a new vehicle at its Tuscaloosa County plant beginning in 2027. Källenius instead said the company was global and could not be “uprooted.”However, it would continue to invest in the U.S. “The star has been a global company for more than 100 years, but we are rooted in Swabia,” Källenius said, in reference to Mercedes’ logo and its historic home in Germany. The company has invested roughly $7 billion in Alabama since the 1990s, including $1.2 billion since 2017 to produce electric vehicles and batteries at its Bibb County plant.
