An extreme surge of arctic air is bringing dangerous cold to Central New York through Friday morning. Wind chills will potentially drop to 25 to 30 degrees below zero in higher elevations, and widespread readings of 10 to 20 degrees below zero are expected across the region. The National Weather Service has issued cold weather advisories for Central New York, including the Syracuse area, from 7 p.m. Thursday through 10 a.m. Friday. Temperatures will remain below zero for much of the area Thursday night, with localized wind chills approaching 25 to 30 below zero in higher terrain. The snow is expected to be light and fluffy due to extremely cold air temperatures and snow ratios.
