BELFIELD, N.D. — A fatal accident occurred late afternoon today approximately 15 miles south of Belfield along Highway 85 according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP). NDHP said an 88-year-old North Dakota man was driving south in a 2005 Chevrolet pickup while an oversize load consisting of a pilot vehicle and two trucks transporting a compressor were traveling north. ADVERTISEMENTBoth the North Dakota man's pickup and the pilot vehicle landed in the east ditch. NDHP said the 88-year-old North Dakota man died from his injuries. For a time, detours were posted and the portion of highway between mile marker 58 and Belfield was restricted to local traffic only.
