The story, found in Luke 2:41-52, is about how Jesus stayed behind in the temple in Jerusalem while his parents started the trek back home. Her fear of losing Jesus allowed her to feel even greater joy when they were reunited. Even though the “wicked witch” did no wrong and only worked for the well-being of others, she has to make the ultimate sacrifice of leaving. Jesus was the ultimate scapegoat.
