Eighteen-year-old Jake McMillan told a jury at Ipswich Crown Court that when he went to Billy McNicholl’s flat in Hawthorn Drive on Christmas Day 2024 he was already dead. McMillan said that after leaving Mr McNicholl’s flat he cycled to the Bobby Robson Bridge and dumped three phones belonging to Mr McNicholl in the River Orwell. He said he had disposed of the phones because they contained messages relating to him selling drugs to Mr McNicholl. McMillan of Peterhouse Close, Ipswich has denied murdering Mr McNicholl. CCTV footage and doorbell video footage showed McMillan had allegedly spent two hours at Mr McNicholl’s flat on Christmas Day.
