One Facebook group, Citizens Against Rhode Island Energy, has amassed 10,000 members in the 11 months since it was founded. Rhode Island, and the United States, is competing more with the rest of the world for the same fossil fuel. Climate advocates note that building new natural gas infrastructure will only keep society hooked on fossil fuels. The money can pay for transformers, new natural gas hookups, power line replacements, and other infrastructure. It’s tough to know how costs will shake out until Rhode Island Energy completes its procurement.
