Here's a shining example of why you should never, ever venture onto the ice of any frozen pond across Northern Colorado... This week a dog was rescued from a pond in South Fort Collins, near Harmony Road, by a crew from the Poudre Fire Authority. Several bystanders were calling the dog, hoping they could coax it out by the time emergency responders arrived. A firefighter highly trained in ice rescue ops put on a special suit and entered the freezing water, making it to the pup and helping him out of the hole in the ice. To quote PFA, "Rescue attempts by bystanders often result in more people needing rescued, so stay on dry ground and call for help."
