Joe Lombardo and U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, the state’s two most prominent Republican officeholders, joined a growing number of Republicans urging accountability and changes in federal immigration enforcement after two fatal shootings of U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minnesota this month. Following the backlash, Trump announced that border czar Tom Homan would take over immigration operations in Minneapolis. Amodei issued his response Tuesday, first in a press release on his House website and later across his social media channels. He has said body-worn cameras should be standard for ICE and related federal agents conducting operations in American communities, both to protect officers and to create a clear record when force is used. Amodei said he expected “thorough and transparent” investigations into both shootings and “immediate corrective action” to prevent similar incidents.
