Officers recorded 583 speeding offences across the county during a week of enforcement activity, supported by Community Speedwatch volunteers. Essex Police said: "Speeding remains a major contributing factor in serious and fatal road collisions. "While many motorists drive responsibly, officers will enforce the speed limit and the law, to keep our roads safe. "Speeding doesn’t just break the law - it significantly increases the likelihood of a collision and the severity of injuries when one occurs." They warned: "Drivers caught exceeding the limit risk fines, penalty points, or court prosecution and disqualification from driving, especially after repeated offences.
