The vehicle caused substantial damage to the front of the Horse and Groom, a branch of the Harvester chain of pubs, on Polegate High Street. A number of benches in front of the pub were also damaged. The pub re-opened at the start of December following a refurbishment. A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Emergency services were called to a report of a van colliding with the front of a pub in High Street, Polegate, at around 11.30pm on Wednesday (28 January). A spokeswoman for East Sussex County Council confirmed that the vehicle is not an East Sussex Highways van.
