If you’ve stepped outside recently you might notice the unusual chill in the air for Louisiana. Winter is in full force here in Baton Rouge and there are measures in place to ensure the warmth and safety of citizens. The East Baton Rouge library system worked in partnership with Homeland Security and MOHSEP–Mayors Office of Emergency Preparedness–to create “Warming Centers” around Louisiana. The Red Cross donated snacks and drinks while the library itself opened its collection of books, new papers and board games for people escaping the cold. “I’ve had quite a few people come in,” EBR Assistant library director Mary Stein says.
