In January of last year then Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said gardai could now pursue people driving scramblers, scooters and electric bikes in a dangerous fashion - adding the caveat that this must be proportionate and appropriate.
"The simple fact is that members of An Garda Síochána are not trained to pursue vehicles, not cars, and certainly not scramblers, which are far more unpredictable and dangerous," he told this paper.
There is not a single Garda in the country who is trained or authorised to engage in a pursuit.
Pursuit driving is entirely different.
These figures are indicative of the DMR's robust and operationally active policing response to this issue," gardai said.
