Gates funding helped revive Africa-led Brilliant study that lost its USAid grant last yearA first-in-humans HIV vaccine trial has enrolled its first participant, reviving a flagship Africa-led programme that was derailed last year when US foreign aid cuts wiped out its main funding. The Brilliant 011 study, run by the South African Medical Research Council with the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation and the Wits Health Consortium, welcomed its first volunteer in Cape Town last week, the SAMRC announced on 22 January.
