Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday underlined the need for Pakistan to develop its own locally manufactured vehicles and promote economical electric bikes to make transport more affordable and sustainable. The remarks came during a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hamad Ali Mansoor, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. These include policy planning, tariff reforms, industrial development frameworks, and initiatives related to the automobile and electric vehicle sectors. Mr. Gilani appreciated the role of the EDB and stressed that the transition towards electric vehicles is no longer optional, particularly in the context of rising environmental concerns and economic pressures. As fuel prices remain volatile and urban congestion continues to grow, the emphasis on local manufacturing and electric mobility appears timely.
