Pakistan is setting its sights on a major boost in gemstone exports, targeting an additional $1 billion over the next four to five years. This initiative comes under a newly drafted Gems and Jewelry Policy for 2027-2030, aimed at developing the sector and bringing it in line with international standards. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the National Policy Framework, focusing on reforms, export growth, and attracting foreign investment. The prime minister also directed the creation of two model Centers of Excellence for gemstones this year, bringing in international experts to address challenges in policy implementation. He noted that despite the country’s rich gemstone reserves, exports remain negligible and stressed the need to encourage private investment, particularly from young entrepreneurs.
