Charlie Nunn, the chief executive of Lloyds, says a strong economy needs strong banks - Hollie Adams/Bloomberg FinanceThe chief executive of Lloyds has defended Britain’s banking sector after Nigel Farage threatened to tax lenders if Reform wins power. He said: “A strong economy needs strong banks. We need a strong banking sector to support that.”It is the first time that Mr Nunn has responded publicly to Mr Farage’s threats. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week, Mr Farage sought to justify Reform’s proposed policy by saying he doesn’t like banks because his account had been closed by Coutts. “So for Lloyds Banking Group, this isn’t a major issue for us.”Mr Nunn’s comments came as Lloyds reported a 12pc jump in pre-tax profits to £6.7bn for 2025, ahead of analyst expectations of around £6.4bn.
