‘My eyesight was holding me back’: 60-year-old Co Antrim adventurer taking on volcano challenge seven weeks after ‘seamless’ surgery

Ray Porter, 60, recently underwent Refractive Lens surgery at Kingsbridge Private Hospital.
“I used to be really squeamish at the mere thought of laser eye surgery.
“For me at that precise moment, laser eye surgery quickly went from vanity to necessity.”Refractive eye surgery corrects vision problems like shortsightedness and longsightedness, and astigmatism by either reshaping the cornea with lasers or replacing the eye’s natural lens with an artificial one.
The latter more impressive still as Roy completed this “Hell of the West” a mere seven weeks after his surgery.
