Major backups and traffic were expected in northwest Indiana Thursday morning after a semi carrying mail and packages crashed and "completely split open," the Indiana State Police said, with closures and cleanup expected to last for hours.
The crash, on I-65 northbound, occurred early Thursday morning, TrafficNet reported.
As of 7:10 a.m., I-65 northbound was blocked from the off-ramp to westbound I-94, Indiana State Police Sgt.
According to Fifield, the semi was "loaded with US mail and completely split open when it crashed."
About 6:39 a.m., traffic cameras from the Indiana Department of Transportation showed heavy backups as the cleanup continued.
