The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is weighing the possibility of abolishing the C+ minimum grade requirement for university admission, in a bid to align entry criteria with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework. The chief executive officer of KUCCPS, Agnes Mercy Wahome, speaking during the National Career Conference and Exhibition at KICC. Why university minimum entry will be done away withHer comments followed concerns after the 2025 KCSE results showed that of the 993,226 candidates, only 270,715, or 27.18%, qualified directly for university admission with a C+ and above. She emphasised that many learners who miss the direct entry grade can still pursue certificate and diploma courses in Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions before advancing to university. Each pathway is structured with specific subject tracks, ensuring placements align with students’ academic strengths, school specialisations, and institutional resources.
