Hundreds of people reacted with heartbreak after organising group Stourport Carnival Society said on Monday (January 26) that it had folded after appeals for volunteers in December and at the start of January had not led to people coming forward to fill roles. Organising group Stourport Carnival Society said in a statement: "It seems people are passionate about Stourport Carnival which is amazing – this isn’t news to us. "Stourport Carnival is a fantastic community event. The statement adds: "Over the years, we asked and practically begged for support with all elements of carnival; volunteers for the day, road marshals, committee members etc." "Whilst Stourport Carnival Society is no longer in existence – there are some committee members who would like to set up a new group to work to keep Stourport Carnival going."
