The ‘South District Union (SDU)’ team has a proud history of creating district competition for the wealth of players operating just below the senior club level in the Borders, and after disappearing for almost two decades it has recently been brought back to life. While the South senior team, led by skipper Angus Runciman, face Caledonia Reds at Jed-Forest’s Riverside Park on March 6 to decide this year’s IDC title, the junior team are busy with a final trial next week for games to follow in April. The next trial is on Wednesday (February 4), at Poynder Park, with a 7.30pm kick-off, with games scheduled against Midlothian at Peebles RFC on April 17 and Border Park on April 24. “In the past, it was played in a similar format to the South IDC with games against North and Midlands, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and discussions are ongoing about whether that can return in the future.
