The Greek word ‘magi’ is plural, which means there could have been three, 13, or any other number. That said, the historical record does not rule out the birth of Jesus Christ, but it nullifies the popular Christmas narrative. This includes 70–100 million turkeys, 10–15 million sheep and goats, 5–8 million cattle and 1.5 billion chickens, in addition to hundreds of millions of fish. Culture is the story we tell ourselves. Given what is at stake, there is no better time than now to critically examine the sacred cows of our culture, and create one based on economic justice and ecological sustainability.
