Alan Johnson, 77, has been chair of the borough’s branch of the party “on and off” for more than a decade, having previously served as its press officer. Mr Johnson said: “We’ve got a lot of younger members in the party now so I think its time for a younger person to take over. The Green Party has a sitting councillor at Bolton Town Hall, Cllr Hanif Alli, of Halliwell, and fielded candidates across all three of the borough’s constituencies at the last general election. Mr Johnson said he pleased to see the how the Green Party had grown both locally and nationally over recent years. Mr Johnson said he now intends to put himself forward as the Bolton Green Party’s election coordinator.
