Sweden's government has ordered the Migration Agency to draw up a list of in demand professions which will be exempted from the new higher salary requirement set to come into force later this year. The agency has been asked to draw up a list of professions for which there is either a current labour shortage in Sweden, or an identified long-term recruitment need. "That is why we are now raising the wage requirement and investing in getting more people who are already in Sweden to work. "With the rules that are now proposed, we are moving away from the previous unreasonably low wage requirement while safeguarding the possibility of recruiting for the shortage occupations." When the government outlined its final proposal last October, it had taken away this role from the two agencies, giving the government itself the role of identifying shortage professions for exemption.
