JAMESTOWN — After three exhibition matches last fall, the University of Jamestown’s inaugural tennis team starts its competitive regular season against Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Mandan Tennis Center. The two sets of twins on the roster are Bodil and Julie van Zeijl from Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Anna and Mariia Sharandachenko from Odesa, Ukraine. When recruiting the Sharandachenko twins, UJ head coach Cameron Jackson initially thought he was recruiting a player named Anna-Mariia from YouTube recruiting videos and placed the name on his shortlist. ADVERTISEMENTJackson had the same effect on Anna and Mariia Sharandachenko, which is what also led them to choose UJ. “After the first call with the coach, I knew I wanted to go to this university,” Mariia said.
