At Carlisle’s Rickergate court, a Cumbria Constabulary detective applied for a domestic violence protection order, telling a judge it was necessary to protect the mother of Jason Jukes. “His aggressive behaviour was such that he had to be repeatedly arrested, despite the warnings given to him,” said the Judge. District Judge Holden said he was satisfied, on the balance or probabilities, that Jukes had threatened his mother with violence and that a domestic violence protection order is necessary and proportionate. Such an order was necessary to protect the defendant’s mother from the threat of violence or violence, said the judge. Domestic violence protection orders are civil in nature, not criminal.
