Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard Robert Browne had already thrown his mother's phone away, and she had to go to a nearby shop to borrow a phone to call the police.
Robert Browne, 38, of Hob Green, Mellor, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to the car, taking it without consent, driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Briony Cook, prosecuting, said Browne had called his mother and asked her to pick him up from a work party.
Miss Cook said Browne directed his mother to a street in Blackburn before taking her phone and throwing it away.
Mr Rawstron added that on the night of the incident, his mother had refused to take him any further, and he became angry.
