Stopping short of declaring that it did not want her to replace outgoing Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti, the PN said Leader of the Opposition Alex Borg today wrote to the Prime Minister to inform him that he expects discussions on the appointment of the new Chief Justice to continue. This position must be filled following agreement between both sides of the House, by a two-thirds vote of Members of Parliament. Abela also went back on his word to Borg that no name would be communicated publicly before formal talks were concluded and agreement reached between both sides. Until agreement is reached on who should succeed Chief Justice Mark Chetcuti, the PN said he will not comment publicly on what is said during discussions with the Prime Minister, which he expects to resume from today.
