The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed that the Ghana Police Service be the sole security agency responsible for securing its presidential primary scheduled for Saturday, 31 January 2026, warning National Security operatives and other unauthorised bodies to stay away from the process.
The directive was issued by the party through its Presidential Elections Committee, which stressed that it will not tolerate the presence of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed or unauthorised security personnel at voting centres, collation points or any activity connected to the primary.
The party expressed confidence in the Ghana Police Service, praising its professionalism and capacity to manage the security needs of the exercise.
The NPP presidential primary is expected to be keenly contested, making security a critical concern as the party prepares to elect a flagbearer ahead of the next general election.
