Police are investigating an alleged attempted murder which occurred on Tuesday January 27, at about 19.00 hours at a residence in Doctor Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, involving a 34-year-old self-employed woman of the same address. A man is in custody. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman was at home, seated on her front veranda with family members, when an unidentified masked man, dressed in dark clothing and armed with a handgun, ran into the yard and attacked her, striking her several times about her body. The victim reportedly fled the house and ran into a neighbouring yard, during which she was pursued and again struck, this time in her back, causing her to fall and sustain injuries to her head and body. The assailant subsequently discharged two rounds in her direction before fleeing the scene.
