The research analysed predicted Bortle scores for 2026—a measurement of light pollution—and the average number of days each month with more than 80 per cent cloud cover. According to the study, the Lake District is expected to have just six overcast days per month. The Cumbrian National Park also boasts one of the lowest predicted Bortle scores of four, making it an ideal stargazing location. Michael Holgate, owner of Holgates, said: "Dark-sky travel is becoming increasingly popular, and the recent aurora displays have sparked a renewed interest in stargazing across the UK. Exmoor, the Lake District, and Dartmoor topped the rankings.
