Moisture hidden in the thin Martian atmosphere could one day help keep humans alive on the Red Planet. Mars is known to contain water in several forms, including underground ice, moisture locked in the soil and trace amounts of vapour in its atmosphere. "This study is one of the first to compare the various technologies that could be deployed to recover water in a Martian environment. "It also puts forward new ideas for atmospheric water harvesting, offering potentially valuable alternatives where other sources are inaccessible." Mars has an extremely dry and thin atmosphere, meaning any extraction system would need substantial power to capture and condense moisture.
