Derek Kelly, co-founder of Kelly Turkeys, died earlier this week at his home in Danbury. He and his wife Mollie founded the company in 1971, and today the company is a leader in the premium traditional turkey sector under the management of their son, Paul. The couple started Kelly Turkeys at Springate Farm in Danbury, focusing initially on hatching day-old poults for farmers and producing Christmas turkeys. Derek played a key role in securing official recognition for traditional turkeys within the UK and European markets, campaigning alongside the National Farmers Union and British Turkey Federation. Derek later became an associate director of Norwich City Football Club, which is owned by Delia Smith and her husband.
