Councillor Ian Hellyer spoke at a recent meeting of Inverclyde Council’s education committee amid discussion about guidance on the use of mobile phones in schools. Councillor Ian Hellyer said: “This is a modern-day problem and is a big issue for schools to address. “Mobile devices and phones have been compared to fruit machines as they are addictive and hold the person to all of the social media apps. “We should explain to users of digital devices what extent prolonged exposure to rapid reward digital devices during school years can contribute to other difficulties with attention, anxiety, and cognitive fatigue in later life. Mr Roach said that schools are already seeing the benefits of limiting the use of digital devices.
