While the overall number of deliberate fires has dropped significantly, the report shows that the most common type involved refuse or refuse containers, accounting for six incidents. There were also three deliberate fires recorded in dwellings, alongside incidents involving grassland, woodland and crops, road vehicles, non-residential properties and other outdoor locations. Figures show that deliberate fires were recorded across multiple council wards, with the highest numbers in Inverclyde Central, which covers parts of Greenock town centre, and Inverclyde East Central, which covers the majority of Port Glasgow. The service also works closely with partners, including Inverclyde Council and Police Scotland, to address deliberate fire-setting and related antisocial behaviour across communities. The report notes that SFRS will continue to focus on education, enforcement and partnership working to reduce the number of deliberate fires and improve community safety across Inverclyde.
