The application covers the creation of new public realm areas, upgraded footpaths, segregated active travel routes, planting and associated works. The landscaping works are intended to complement previously approved redevelopment plans, including the partial demolition of the eastern section of the Oak Mall and changes to the surrounding road layout. Officers have recommended changes to some planting proposals, including a greater use of native species, to ensure the landscaped areas are appropriate for a civic setting and manageable in the long term. The objector suggested that some landscaped areas could instead be used for parking to encourage visitors into the town centre.
