Democrats who oppose gender ideology are suing the state of Illinois for blocking their ability to fundraise without the permission of Democratic Party officials. The organization Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (DIAG) is filing a lawsuit against Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. It is the “freedom to speak out” and challenge the status quo, particularly in the Democratic Party, that drives the group. “The Illinois Democratic Party doesn’t get to decide whether we can call ourselves ‘Democrats,'” DIAG Board Secretary Jenny Poyer Ackerman stated in a news release. “Backing down would go against everything we believe in.”Requesting permission from a political party to speak freely also undermines the First Amendment.
