The Labour government has announced a wide-ranging package of measures designed to support pubs and other hospitality businesses, with the average pub expected to save £1,650 in 2026/27. Around three-quarters of pubs are said to see their business rates fall or stay the same, while the sector overall is expected to pay eight per cent less in business rates by 2029 than it does now. Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: “If we’re going to restore pride in our communities, we need our pubs and our high streets to thrive,” she said. Alongside financial support, the government has launched a review into how business rates are calculated, working with businesses and valuation experts ahead of the 2029 revaluation. “We will continue to engage with the sector to ensure retail, leisure and hospitality businesses have sufficient planning flexibility,” he said.
