ADVERTISEMENTGlobal NCAP finds Toyota Corolla Cross lackingAccording to Global NCAP, the low adult safety score is largely due to the absence of standard side head airbags on Corolla Cross models sold in African markets, including South Africa. The Corolla Cross is currently one of South Africa’s best-selling vehicles, ranking second overall behind the Toyota Hilux. AA chief executive officer Bobby Ramagwede said the findings were particularly troubling given that the Corolla Cross is built in South Africa and widely driven. There really is no excuse for the lack of side head protection in the popular Toyota Corolla Cross,” he said. Toyota South Africa responded by saying the locally manufactured Corolla Cross meets and exceeds all applicable local legislative safety requirements.
