Boasting incredible athleticism, physicality and a remarkable work rate, Hanekom has already demonstrated that he has all the attributes to add an invaluable weapon to the Springboks’ arsenal at No 8. The 22-year-old former Junior Springbok captain has been one of the true standout performers at the start of the URC, and the genuine threat he offers at the breakdown makes him a really appealing prospect for the Springboks. Besides Marco van Staden, the Springboks don’t really have another out-an-out openside flank, and so it will be fascinating to see if De Villiers receives a call up this year if he can maintain top form and fitness.
