Image: SuppliedVergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West is celebrating a remarkable season of new life across its vast conservation landscape, highlighted by the birth of a rare dwarf Nguni calf. The calf is the most unusual newcomer at the 3 000-hectare estate, which includes a 400-hectare game camp within a 1 980-hectare nature reserve. “His mother is very protective and closely monitors anyone who approaches.”The unnamed calf joins another young Nguni, Henry, who has become something of a favourite on the estate. The two calves were born after a particularly productive calving season, during which 133 Nguni calves were born between July and September last year.
