The EU and India have concluded a landmark free trade agreement (FTA), the largest such deal ever made by either region. Notably, under this trade agreement, tariffs – ranging up to 11 percent on pharmaceuticals – will be mostly eradicated, a trade deal no other countries have received from India. This present deal follows another recent major trade deal involving the EU, one that was struck with Latin American countries and created “the largest free trade zone in the world”. However, for this present trade deal between the EU and India, the EU Commission noted that negotiations for an investment protection agreement are ongoing.
