Michael Stone is a successful but miserable customer service expert who has become bored with his life. To Michael, she is an ‘anomaly’, the Anomalisa of the title, and he becomes instantly, desperately obsessed with her. The movie shows how loneliness, disappointment, and emotional isolation can exist even when we are surrounded by people. She spends her life trying to keep everyone’s ‘colour’ bright and happy, often at the expense of her own feelings. It shows how feelings, even when hidden, shape who we are and how we connect with others.
